In July, Antonio Garza will travel through the blazing Arizona heat by bicycle with his one-man show “Men in Uniform.”

In his hour-long show, Garza, a native of the South Texas-Mexico border, takes us through never-wracking interrogations by customs agents during his adolescence to sexually charged adult encounters with federal airport security These stories weave into a detention and subsequent arrest by the US Border Patrol in the weeks following the 11th of September.

Garza tells intimate, often funny, often heart-breaking stories of coming of age, patriotic ambivalence, and his own encounters with men in uniform. His show gives us an up close look at the effects race-based policing. On stage we see Garza come to terms with these confrontations, his relationship to African Americans, and his family. The show  leaves audiences questioning the logic and acceptance of racial profiling.
